Aside from allowing natural light to enter your home, double glazed plastic sheets (or polycarbonate) also provide sound reduction, thermal insulation and are extremely durable. They’re so strong that they’re used in commercial areas where there is a lot of foot traffic or security needs.
The transparent qualities of acrylic and polycarbonate secondary glazing help to keep heat in your home or office, saving you money on energy bills throughout the year. These plastics also reduce condensation and improve draughts, ensuring your property stays warm without the need to have heating on constantly.
Our secondary glazing is made from clear acrylic, also known as Perspex or Lucite (or Altuglas or Plexiglass). Unlike glass, it does not discolor over time and is easy to maintain. The material is a lot stronger than glass and up to 10 times as impact resistant, with a K value lower than traditional glass for enhanced thermal insulation.
The Ultimate Guide to Double Glazed Plastic Sheets: Benefits, Applications, and Installation Tips
We have a choice of 3 mm or 5 mm thick acrylic secondary glazing to fit your existing window frames. Both thicknesses offer the same level of light transmission and both are available in opal, with a choice of magnetic or nylon fasteners.
The magnets allow the acrylic to be easily removed from the window frame in the summer and stored away, re-attaching during winter or spring when you want to clean your windows. With proper maintenance and the use of a suitable product such as Vuplex plastic cleaner, your secondary double glazing will last for years and keep your home or office looking good.
